The Specious Present, 2021

In two “scratch drawings,”Tribe presents several philosophers’ attempts to diagram our perception of time while acknowledging its movement through time as part of an experiential continuum. They encourage reflection on the unfolding of one’s own conscious experience of time. Time after all is subjective. The diagrams speak to the span of our immediate awareness which is measured in seconds at most. Tribe is interested in the paradoxical nature of the present moment, as the present always includes everything that precedes it, and simultaneously holds the expectations of what comes next. The present is a place between past and future, of an undefinable duration, both a fact and a fiction.
